I believe counseling must be a collaborative effort in which the client and clinician work together to identify needs, concerns, aspirations, and to develop a clear vision for the work they are to do together. My role as a counselor is to help guide individuals through the process of discovering their inherent strengths and barriers which can involve identifying and working through past and/or present conflicts. Collaboration is a key element in my practice as we work together to build a healthy therapeutic relationship where we can experience trust, empathy, and acceptance, and respect for all parties involved.

The counseling process may look different for each client. The approach used and the length of treatment may vary due to individual needs and circumstances. Clients always have the right to stop counseling at any point in treatment and/or choose a different counselor. If the client need is outside of my scope of practice I will inform the client and refer when possible. The counseling process is not easy and there are no guarantees. Initially, it may be disruptive to the client’s emotional experiences and/or relationships, however, this is a normal part of the counseling process.

I graduated from Corban University with a Masters in Family Life Studies in 2014. Shortly upon graduation I began my counseling career with Youth Villages Intercept program, where I continue to provide intensive in home services to children and their families. In 2017, I decided to become a clinical supervisor with Youth Villages Intercept program. Currently (2020), I provide direct care to families and supervise. I am a trauma informed clinician certified in TF-CBT. I am also a collaborative problem solving certified clinician through Think Kids.

I started my work in the helping profession as a teen, when I served in my local church. It was as a young teen that I really desired to help others. After graduating from Warner Pacific College in Portland, Oregon with a Bachelors of Science in Human Development, I began working in a residential group home. Then I pursued and completed my graduate degree at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa Idaho. I have been working as a mental health therapist ever since.

I consider my practice to be a partnership with each client and consider it an honor to be a part of the journey. I have experience with all age groups, cultures, individuals, parents, and families. I have experience working with all types of family dynamics, social economic classes and religious backgrounds.

I specialize in ages 0-18 years of age, parenting, and family therapy. I have hours of trainings in many modalities such as CBT, DBT, CPS, CPP, mindfulness, parenting, attachment, interpersonal skills, communication skills, and social skills. I have worked extensively with children, teens and families in crisis and in the foster care system. I also have personal experience with foster children, adoption and attachment challenges as I have been a foster parent of 16 children of which I adopted 3.

I am a practicing Christian and can incorporate the Christian faith into therapy at the client's request.

I don't have anything fancy to say, no affirmations or encouragements to convince you, "THAT'S the therapist for me!" I am here to listen; I am here to assist you working through your needs, identifying goals, and to strategize the best way to meet those goals. In short, it's not about me; it's about you. That's why I'm here.

I'm licensed by the state of Alabama as a Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW), and by the state of Oregon as a Clinical Social Work Associate (CSWA), meaning I receive clinical supervision to support my pursuit a clinical and independent license.

I earned my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Social Work from Troy University. I have a history of working with children, anxiety, Veterans, and the homeless.

I am a generally a Generalist, but have completed trainings in ACT, DBT, CBT, and shame informed therapy, but the most important thing to know about how I work is that I work with what my clients give me--I consider therapy a partnership wherein my most important job is to listen. I will meet you where you are with what you bring me, and I will bring you my full attention, employ the skills and interventions I have learned based on what your needs are, and I expect my clients to bring exactly one thing to every session: willingness.

If you are willing to change, willing to grow, willing to hear difficult things, willing to work on yourself, and willing to tell me what you need from our time, that is where we begin.
