I believe that everyone can reach an optimum state of health. I employ an eclectic (or including all kinds of therapy types) approach with a strong reliance on cognitive-behavioral aspects. I am trained in EMDR, Trauma-Focused CBT, PCIT therapy, Infant/Toddler Mental Health, mindfulness techniques, and possess a certificate in Substance Abuse Treatment. I also have several years experience and training with sexual assault and domestic violence.

For my formal education and training; after completing my bachelor degree and obtaining a Substance Abuse Certificate, I realized I was not able to assist clients with trauma or other issues. So, I went back to school to get the degree I needed to be able to help all the people who came to me. Now, I have a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling.

My career began with teenagers in residential treatment for substance abuse, after this I worked with a younger group of 5-11 year olds in residential treatment for behavior problems. From there I moved to adults with legal issues and substance abuse, while having a second job as a sexual assault counselor. I have worked with very young children, under 1 year old and their parents, as well as older adults who are in need of resolving old conflicts in their past so they can look forward to the future and all others in between.

The therapy techniques we use depend on you and what works best for you, this is a team effort with you in the lead. Let’s talk about how I can help you today. I welcome all ages and backgrounds.

Bilingual in Spanish and English

I was raised in Minnesota and later moved to California, where I earned my MSW at Loma Linda University. I spent five years working with the homeless population before transitioning to a more therapeutic setting. Although I initially began as a group therapist, my focus has shifted to individual therapy.

In my practice, I employ a non-judgmental and person-centered approach. I integrate motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) modalities. Additionally, I may incorporate dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills during the therapeutic process. I am committed to helping individuals establish and work towards ongoing goals, recognizing and respecting the existence of limitations in the therapeutic journey. I create a supportive space where people can use their natural abilities to grow personally and overcome their challenges.

In a safe, non-judgmental therapeutic space, as a graduate from the MSW program at the University of Oklahoma and +15 years as an LCSW, guided by authenticity & respectful curiosity, I seek to give you as a client at Stronger Oregon Roseburg Therapy LLC opportunities for growth, positive change and renewed hope through engaging you in such therapeutic process as awareness, self-discovery,  problem identification, exploration of options and priorities and self-determination for problem solving of choice.

As I claim to be no author or expert in control of your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and so-called life, I would like you to understand that it is humanly impossible to guarantee any specific outcomes regarding your stated counseling goals. It is my belief that positive outcomes from positive counseling/therapy experience are naturally successfully  achievable when, throughout the counseling process, there is the presence of such elements as willingness to be honest to self and another, having an inquisitive open mind and the courage for self-discovery process (i.e. discovery of one’s authentic voice),  to feel, think, become aware of the authentic self, self-aspiration, self-determination and self-empowerment for positive change, and a good “fit” between client and therapist.

By creating a therapeutic space also marked by acceptance allowing the clients to enter in the therapeutic client-therapist relationship “where they are” and “as who they are”, I encourage you as my client to avoid feeling hesitant or afraid of asking questions or voicing your concerns or preferences.  My approach to therapy – humanistic, flexible, holistic, person-centered strengths-based & evidence base approach oriented - is grounded in extensive clinical training, and informed by psychological, cultural, and social theory.  As I am equipped with American – European - Asian educational background, multi-cultural experiences, and multi-lingual skills such as Vietnamese, French, the scope of my work also extends to transcultural clientele in need of therapeutic services.

BIOI grew up in Oregon and returned as an adult learner graduating from Portland State University, Master of Social Work degree, with emphasis in child and family clinical work.  I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in Play Therapy, Sand Tray, Experiential Therapies, Brainspotting, Attachment work, Perinatal issues, and HeartMath. I’m certified in Parent Child Interaction Therapy and Synergetic Play Therapy.  Being trauma sensitive and using mindfulness is what I like to focus on as a therapist.  I like to bring a sense of peace and inner resilience to the folks I meet with, and I believe that anyone of any age can gain awareness of their own resilience and capacity to heal. The potential for healing is within each one of us, and my role is to help bring each person’s inner healer into being.

My passions include helping parents increase relationship with their children, and helping children gain feelings of security and attachment with the grownups in their lives.  Attachment relationships of child and parent, whether this is birth-family, adoptive-family, foster-family, or single clients who are working on healing from the past are all situations that I have experience working with.

Please feel free to see if I would make a good fit for what you are looking for in therapy. I work with all ages and stages of development, am LGBTQ+ aware, and open to working with the human that you are and who you want to become.  We are all growing into who we truly are and what our gifts can be. May your light shine bright!

Julie Williamson, Professional Counselor Associate

Every client is unique, so every approach I use in therapy is tailored to you and your personal journey. Consider that maybe the journey isn't so much about becoming anything.

Maybe it's about unbecoming everything that isn't really you, so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place.

Covering Challenges Related to: Attachment & Bonding, Healing Trauma, Parent-Child Relational Challenges, Anxiety, Depression, Grief & Loss, Aging, and Identity Work

Counseling Services Offered: Individual counseling; Children Ages 6+, Teens, & Adults any age.

In my work I apply an eclectic approach to therapy as opposed to prescribing to one theory or orientation. I utilize a more pragmatic approach that will fit the individual human being that comes before me with their particular struggle. For some, therapy may focus on processing past experiences (insight oriented), while for others the focus may be on developing coping skills (DBT) challenging thoughts and interrupting behavior patterns (CBT), or setting goals for change.

Treatment modalities include talk-therapy, art and play therapy, sand tray work, meditation, homework, parent-child interaction therapy, and more. I am always eager in broadening my approaches to therapy and work to find the tools and approaches that match my clients individuality.

Education & Licensing Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Lewis & Clark College Bachelor’s of Science in Clinical Psychology from University of Oregon.

Additional Training Extensive training in the area of attachment, trauma and abuse, parenting, foster and adoption issues, childhood emotional and behavioral disorders, and juvenile fire-setting.

About Me I am the mother of two children, ages 17 and 9. While a native of California, I came to Oregon for school, and decided to make this my home.

I spent the last 25 years working at Jasper Mountain, an incredible treatment program for severely abused and emotionally disturbed children. Through this experience I was able to work with youth, parents, and young adults in accessing healing, grounding, & more joy.

In addition to counseling, I am also the Director of Lane County's Child/Adolescent Crisis Response Line.

During my free time I enjoy hiking, Cross-fit, and outdoor adventures. I love to travel and watch my children grow.
